Yard Sale Success

It has been a while since my last post. I'll give you three reasons for this: work, travel, illness. Yep, I've been battling a busy schedule and a terrible cold. But in the middle of all of that, I did manage to do a pretty great thing last weekend. I made $53 selling stuff at a community yard sale!

I began the day with two suitcases and a backpack of stuff:

Four hours later, I left with one suitcase of stuff:

Was it worth it to do the yard sale? I think so. Sure, I didn't make a ton of money, but I'm still $53 richer (and $53 less in debt) and stuff I no longer needed found a good home in my community. All wins, as far as I'm concerned.

Have you ever had a garage sale/participated in a community yard sale? Was it successful?

  1. Sweet! We're purging again. We have been doing small donations at a time to the thrift store on base, but if we don't get there right away, it accumulates and this time, we got removed so many things from the house (I actually got rid of some books!), that I realized it's enough to actually have a sale. I wish it was a community thing, but it'll just be us. Hopefully it will be as successful as our last one before we moved from Florida. We didn't price anything! We made the most and got rid of the most! Success! Just lightening the load and making a few bucks before driving to base is worth it.

    1. I hope your sale goes well! I'm sure your stuff is a goldmine considering the girls grow out of clothes so quickly! My dad used to call my mom's garage sales "Engeldinger's 2" after a kid's clothing store that used to be in the mall in the 80s-90s. My mom made hundreds selling my old clothes after I grew out of them.

    2. Oh, and don't trouble yourself by seeing that copy of The Fiery Cross. I have another one at home :)

  2. HAHA! I actually paperbackswapped all my Outlander copies b/c that's how I got them and they weren't nice enough to justify keeping. Now, I've got my mind set on getting the whole set. BUT, do I wait until the series is finished (say it'll never happen!) or buy them individually and get them that way? P said, and he does get credit for looking, that he was trying to find a hardcover set and didn't want to drop $150 for a used copy when it wasn't even complete yet. I told him to just figure out how to get them directly from Diana, signed. ;) Come to think of it, I didn't ask him if it was in prep for Christmas or just because I'm (and they're) awesome. Haha!

  3. I hope they never end! But maybe wait until you can buy all of them? I'd ask P to get them signed, too! Great gift idea for hardcore fans like us. I don't do paperback swap, but I get most of my books from the library. I maybe buy 1-3 books a year or I'll ask for one or two for Christmas if I think it is one I'll keep. I have vowed to keep all the Outlander and Harry Potter novels, because I re-read them every few years. Worth the investment.
